Postural study for cyclists with Vélo Fitting

Why is posture study important on a new bike?

The postural study, as its name suggests, consists of studying the cyclist’s morphological data to improve and optimize his or her position. Whether you’ re a beginner looking to get off to a good start in cycling and avoid mistakes as far as possible, or an experienced rider looking to optimize your position and continue to improve in all areas, postural studies are suitable for all levels.

The session unfolds as follows: first, the person wishing to study their posture sits down on the home trainer. As they pedal, they describe their initial sensations and discuss any pain they may be experiencing during training. These may include back pain or other specific complaints. The specialist can already get an idea of the reason for these pains and use this information later in his analysis.

The specialist will study the cyclist’s gait and pelvis. After ensuring that the saddle is correctly installed, he enters the bike’s data, such as frame size and handlebar width, and places sensors on the rider’s body to analyze his or her posture. These sensors help to understand the body’s movements and transmit data enabling the necessary adjustments to be made.

The postural study ends with the taking of bike measurements, which will enable us to freeze the exact measurements adapted to the cyclist, ideal in case you need to dismantle your bike on your next trip!

The length of the session depends on the rider’s background. In fact, if you’ve already done a postural study before, the adjustments will be quick, around 45 minutes, since all you have to do is take this information.

On the other hand, if it’s your first time, it will take a little longer, around 1h30 to 2h. Likewise, the time will be different if it’s a time trial bike or a bike with a different geometry.

There are many advantages to having a postural study! Posture studies optimize your performance, improve efficiency and make you more comfortable on your bike. Some rides are long, so they need to be enjoyable!

In addition, thanks to this study, you can avoid physiological problems that can be caused by incorrect settings, and prevent recurring injuries such as tendonitis.

A postural study may be expensive, but it’s also a long-term investment , and can even save you money. Thanks to your postural study, you won’t buy the wrong bike – you’ll buy the right one for your posture!
